Suddenly, there has been a change...

At the last minute, Mrs. Schatz had to cover for Mrs. Hollingsworth's absence from the Harry Potter Club and I, Mrs. Overfelt, had to take over. We had a grand time talking books, eating Crunch & Munch and drinking punch (tropical, fruit and pacific). We also discussed movie tie-ins especially in reference to the new release of Twilight, Secret Life of Bees, City of Ember and otheres. New recommendations were noted as well as most hated books. Next month, we promised to work on Shelfari listing and perhaps this blog...

Today was our first meeting and we have 12 members plus Mrs. Schatz and Mrs. Overfelt. Welcome to our new members!!! We had a lively and eclectic discussion of books read lately and/or all time favorite books. Here's what was recommended:
Stormi: The Book Thief, Eragon series, and Inkheart series

Amber: So B. It, What Happened to Cass McBride?, Night
Georgia: Lovely Bones
Olivia: The Summoning

We also briefly mentioned the Twilight series and the upcoming movie, Laurell Hamilton's books, the upcoming Inkheart movie, http://www.inkheartmovie.com/, which will be in theatres January 9,, 2009.

It was a great discussion and we now have lots of book suggestions to read.

New Book club at LHS!

On October 16, 2007 8 students and Mrs. Schatz met to form Book Mystics, a book club. It was decided by its members to have 2 books ready to introduce/discuss/rave about by November 14. One book can be a favorite from whenever. The other book must be a new book to the member read between the 2 meetings. We will be meeting during lunches.

I'm quite excited about this club. I am having a hard time deciding on which book to bring as my favorite--I have quite a few that are near and dear to me.
